Social media is believed to be the pathway for financial gain and monetary success. Today we seek attention and recognition more than ever before, and anyone can become famous for the sake of being famous if they're willing to sacrifice their privacy, 24/7 and put in the work. Since Steve Jobs introduced the smartphone, anything is possible and it's free except for the cost of the phone and the monthly mobile phone bill.
Before, I would make appointments and take my portfolio with me or send in PDFs. Today, we are no longer restricted and we can live our lives publicly 24/7 online if we wish to. I am confused. I am no longer judged on my work but on my lifestyle choices, how I look, and the number of followers I gain.
My greatest fear has always been one of rejection. I have always been reluctant to be forced by tech giants to be prolific online so that they can collect as much data as possible on me. I am now pressured every day to lose my privacy so that can be loved and liked by people globally that I don't really care about. I am also lead to believe if I have millions of followers I will be more valued by companies and corporations because any product I wear or each holiday destination I go to visit will make me a better, more prosperous person. Each day, we are brainwashed by social media influences to believe that every product that they eat, wear, drive and fly is good for us even if it’s not. Often, there is no intelligence required in their choices but the smile tells us that it makes their life better. Each time an influencer smile with joy helps feeds our supply into a tech giant's conspiracy of wealth. If only God knew! Let the games begin.
